Tucson Tea Party

The T.E.A. Party in Tucson, Arizona had a very good turnout of "protesters". Nearly 2,000 people showed up. Of course one major problem with most of these "protesters" is that only about 10% showed up with signs. Why did the other 90% bother to show up to a "protest" without anything in their hands to show what they stood for. Would they show up at the American Revolution without a musket? The other problem with the "protest" is that 99% of the people stayed within the walls of our park totally invisible to the public. About 20 people with signs stood on the street so other people would know that something was going on. I stayed on the street for 7 hours with mostly the same people. One person asked me if it was okay to be on the street with his sign. I assured him that the constitution said he could. Most "protestors" stood around seeing and being seen while listening to recorded conservative speeches, rock music and a few guest speakers.None of the organizers took the initiative to invite people to go to the streets with their signs and to meet back in an hour for a recharge. It was amazing to see the apathy of people passing me and others with our signs on the street. Here we have signs protesting high taxes and they didn't show any sign of support.Overall I'd say it is an extreme up hill battle trying to win support for our cause.I was also amazed at how few organizations took advantage of the opportunity to get petitions signed or to get out the word. The Libertarian Party was the only party signing people up for their cause. And there was voter registration going on, and collecting names of T.E.A. Party attendees, but not much else. A lot of missed opportunity today.
